SURVIVOR

Looking back on things from her past, George can’t remember the time she never had a book on her - whether it was a lengthy novel or comic. She had friends and family, but books were really the only things that were there for her when times went sideways. She always looked to books to fix things, even if they just gave her peace. With a little smile on her face, she looks at Sparks as she takes in her surroundings.

“I’m glad you like it,” said George. “It’s not much, but it’s home and it’s mine.”

It sounded like she and Sparks had a lot in common already especially when it came to reading. “Well, you can borrow any books you want. You just have to respect them,” said George with a little nod. A little chuckle escapes her and she pulls something rare from underneath her old, tattered mattress and holds up one of the few comics she’s found. “Like any horror comics? Basically a murder slasher one, but it’s fun to read if you’re ever interested.”

George flips it open to the middle, eyeing the art style and glances up at Sparks to gauge her reaction. She contemplates the blonde’s question for a moment and shrugs her shoulders. “Read them, but I like to keep them around in case I ever want to visit that world again. It’s nice break from all the crazy we have to deal with here.” Before she lays back, George leans against Sparks playfully and brushed her shoulder against hers.

“It’s been a long time since I had nice company.”

The thought of George reading books truly warms her. It makes her think in some other, in another non apocalyptic world they could have been good friends in the past life. It really was lovely and that wasn’t a lie. There was such a comfortable feeling just being in her room, that brought her to a feeling she hadn’t experienced since before Black Summer.

“It’s wonderful I promise.”

A proud feeling seeped through her knowing she could have access to George’s library at any moment in time. “I would respect any book I come across but especially any of yours.” She replied back in a jokingly serious manner. She’s surprised by the random book that George brings out of nowhere. In reply she shakes her head. “I used to love reading horror. It would always make me feel so scared in a controlled setting that I could handle. but now, I think I’ve experienced enough horror in my life to just enjoy a few comedies… maybe a couple romances.”

The world had calmed around her now.  She’d been smiling a lot more lately with her group. “Although it’s been a while since I’ve actually truly been scared, so maybe I’ll take you up on that. “ Sparks is resting on her bed whilst George nuzzles into her. A feeling washes over here, something that again she hasn’t felt in a long time. The feeling a budding crush. It’d been so long since she’d been able to feel like this. It was truly feeling they were on the cusp of a new world, and it was truly riveting.
