John was turning to go when she accepted the can and scurried away, the routine familiar, but finally, she spoke.
“Huh?” He replied, stopping and turning back into her doorway and leaning an arm against it, “What’s up…” He glanced down sheepishly at the floor, the ring he’d found heavy in his pocket.The confession sent his heart to his stomach and he licked his lips slowly. He wasn’t especially good at dealing with these issues head-on, he much preferred to step around them, leave small gifts and hints at an apology rather than facing the situation.
“I miss you too.” He admitted, but could think of nothing else to say.
Sparks was glad to see him turn back to her. She’d spent so many days watching him walk away, yearning to call him back. A small smile formed on her face as she watched his eyes settle on the ground.
Internally she felt relieved learning that her missed her too. She hadn’t even expected that, but it was such a sweetness to her ears.
"I’m sorry.“ Her fingers tightened on the can of beans. "I’m an idiot.”
